LOVE’S LABOR’S LOST

Photography by Grace Sartin

At the end of this past August, four young people sat around a table and vowed to do something this fall. We had no pre-existing infrastructure; we made our own rules; there was a week or so where we didn’t even know what the story would be.

How fitting it is to me, then, that we ended up with a story that begins when four more young people sit around a table and make their own ambitious vow. They break the rules they’ve set for themselves, make new ones, prove each other wrong again, and look a little ridiculous while doing it.

In the midst of all this play’s lessons and mistakes, there is the creation of community, a shared memory, and delightfully foolish games. Just as I think this will stick with our characters after their labors (spoiler alert) end, so (I believe) will our own. This piece is one of many that the people sharing this space with you tonight will build from the ground-up. It is made without permission and with love.
